Tonights Gig in London 20th MAY – POSTPONED

Just got this message about tonights show from the venue:

It is with great regret that tonight’s show by The Flaming Lips has been rescheduled to next Monday 27 May. This is due to illness.

All tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show, however refunds are available for those unable to attend the new date. Please contact ticketing@roundhouse.org.uk before midday this Friday 24 May if you wish to obtain a refund.

The second show on Tuesday 21 May is unaffected at present. However, should illness persist, the promoter may need to reschedule the second show too. The promoter will make information available at the earliest possible opportunity. Please bear with us and check our website for updated news.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this will cause.

Devastated! Took my daughter to her first gig to see the Flaming Lips ten years ago at Newcastle City Hall. She described it as the 'best day of her life'! As a thank you (10 years later) she bought me tickets for the Roundhouse gig. Travelled from the North-east in eager anticipation only to find the gig had been cancelled at short notice! Still in a state of shock and can't explain how disappointed I am.

I understand that illness can't be helped And I hope everyone is ok. But was 2 hours notice really the most notice that could be given? With train and hotel I am £150 out of pocket. And as such can't afford to come next week.

Gutted.

With the tornado devastation in Oklahoma, I imagine performing last night was the last thing the band wanted to do. The illness red herring is probably for insurance purposes. Initially I was pissed off having travelled to the venue,but after seeing the news today it put things in perspective.

Yeah what happened in Oaklahoma is dreadful but as the saying goes 'the show must go on'. As with Bruce I forked out over £150 for travel and hotel and took time off work. Rail tickets alone are £120 and as such I can't afford to travel down next Monday.

Live in the Isle of Man. Booked tickets as part of a stop off in London on way to Barcalona. Can't make rescheduled date, and the venue won't give a refund because I bought from getmein & getmein won't give a refund because it's not been cancelled just rescheduled.

Hi

I feel for you all that are now unable to attend. It was bad that they cancelled with such short notice. I was paranoid all day on Tuesday clicking refresh to find any news on the Tuesday gig that I went too. I didn't see any confirmation of the gig going ahead until gone 3pm.

However, I made it to show, and was more than happy with the performance as they were on for close to 2 hours. I saw them earlier in the year perform this show at a festival in Brazil, which was quite disappointing due to the lack of enthusiasm from the Brazilian fans who expected a full on Flaming Lips show with the ball and tons of confetti and all their hits, to me it was interesting to see them perform a different type of show. I did go to the London show expecting to be disappointed, I was wrong. They were great and the fans were great.

I'd go again to next Monday's show if I could afford it and get tickets. So, if anyone really can't use their ticket for next week, feel free to send it to me and I'll be happy to make sure it is used and enjoyed.

Good to hear that you enjoyed Tuesday's gig as I've dug deep to travel back from the 'North' to get to the rescheduled gig on Monday.

Managed to get another day of work to get back to London next week, can't afford another hotel though so will get the last train back to dorset at 12.05...
Ian1983 (it any one else who went in Tuesday) what time did they finish, would I miss the end of the set to get the train?

Support act started at 8pm for 30 mins.
Lips came on about 9pm and finished their encore about 11pm. Making the train would depend on which station you go out of i guess.

Looking forward to next Monday but must say that I'm a bit disgruntled that to my knowledge none of the band members have publicly apologised for the gig being cancelled. If anyone can direct me to an apology then maybe I will be a little bit more forgiving. It is clear that fans travelled far and wide and a little recognition of the fact would go a long y. Or am I asking too much?

I dont think there has been an exact apology.

I reckon the set list will be the same, or at least similar. There will probably be an apology at the show itself.

I'm keen to see what the poster will be like. The Tuesday gig poster was the 2nd part of a 2 part set, but they will probably have to reprint the first lot with the new date on it.

@mindrobber thanks for reminding me about the Radio 6 live show. I'll listen to it later as my wife is I'll in bed and I can't find my headphones! Glad to see that you should be able to get the train home after the show. I'm having to sleep on floor in Hackney as a hotel was out of the question but by the looks of the reviews and the setlist that Ian has referenced it should be worthwhile.
